On Sunday, December 20th, I visited the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison Wisconsin to deliver gifts, which were donated, purchased and gift-wrapped by Dan Green Foundation supporters, and raise the Spirits of hospitalized Veterans, many of whom do not have family.
United Relief Foundation president Frank Salato and the Foundation’s Wisconsin liaison and Hope and Help partner Maria Loomer, president of Above & Beyond, joined me as we distributed and conversed with the Veterans.
During our visit we were informed of the contiguous “condition” of many of the patients, so we had to limited our visits. Nevertheless, it was a very rewarding experience and demonstrate how partnering with the United Relief Foundation we can compound our Good Deeds in make tangible differences.
The Vets where very welcoming and grateful.
It was a very rewarding experience filled with many treasured and telling moments that we are truly touching lives, healing hearts.
One of the most heartwarming and telling that showed we we’re making a difference was when after our visit with Bill and 88 year old veteran (shown in the photo with Maria Loomer) we meet him again walking (with the assistance of a nurse) and he was all smiles and showing us that he was wearing his moccasin slippers gift.
Everyone that donated and helped in Sharing the Spirit of Season should feel rewarded.
The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital services 83 inpatients of those 26 beds are in their Community Living Center which is for extended rehab and hospice care Veterans.
